Until April 24, 2022, Arts Sutton premieres the exhibition Mark the territory by André Fournelle, a multidisciplinary artist renowned for his sculptures, his performances, his installations in art galleries and also for his works in situ in nature.

Mark the territory is a rich, constant and coherent production that marks the memory and the territory, both in Quebec and abroad,” according to curator Suzanne Pressé.

The artist follows a constant work process using the fundamental natural elements of fire, water, earth and air.

The sculptures made with raw or natural materials such as barbed wire, pure pigments and coal, reveal the artist’s vision of social issues. The coal is embedded in symbolic forms often connoted as the cross, the diamond, the spiral. André Fournelle’s work has been shown at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Galerie Clara Maria Sels in Düsseldorf (Germany), the Chapelle des Brigittines in Brussels (Belgium) and the Hôtel de la Monnaie in Paris (France).

In the fall of 2021, André Fournelle received the highest distinction awarded to artists by the Quebec government, the Paul-Émile-Borduas prize.
