Beauty

A poem by Michael Hawkes

Our tree-lined street is magnificent in the fall.

The red maples’ russet leaves are beautiful

AND

Make me think of passing time and…

And feel a sort of sorrow for…

OR

The maple tree is beautiful

BUT

I know the species is threatened by…

And climate change is killing…

OR

This tree IS BEAUTIFUL

And these trees ARE BEAUTIFUL

AMEN
